Psalm 23:1
Hello Friends! This past week I was talking to my friend Christopher and during one of our conversations he shared one of his favorite verses with me. The verse was Psalm 23:1 which says, “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” Although I had read this verse many times before, when I heard it again this week, it really stuck out to me and I felt called to share my thoughts about it.
First of all, I want to explain the significance of Christ being compared to a shepherd throughout scripture and in this verse particularly. A shepherd’s sole job is to lead his flock in the direction they need to go. As believers we are God’s flock of sheep, being led in the ways he shows us. When a sheep, or a believer, falls away from the flock the shepherd will stop at nothing to chase that sheep down and bring it back to safety. Our shepherd, Jesus Christ, is relentlessly pursuing and protecting us in the same way that a shepherd looks out for his flock.
Now back to Psalm 23:1...this verse is so powerful because the message being conveyed is a constant truth throughout the Bible. With God, we do not require anything other than Him to sustain us because he is in control and will provide for us. He is our eternal father and with him, we need nothing because his mercy and love for us is everything.
So what I hope everyone takes away from this post is that Christ, your shepherd, is constantly watching over you to protect you from evil. You are loved and relentlessly pursued by the one who created the universe.
